The Asylum Day 29: Speed and Agility

The Asylum Day 29: Speed and Agility

Dec 13, 2011

So I can’t believe I have made it through 29 days with Asylum! It has been rough, but always lots of fun throughout and I’m truly sad it’s coming to an end. I have really loved these dates despite my complaints from time to time and I’ve loved being able to do them with John. It has been so awesome having that workout buddy, accountability partner, and just quality time with my hubby!  For me it makes all the difference in the world. It takes working out from being a chore that takes up time in my day, to being a bonding experience and quality time with my family. It makes it much harder for me to skip my workout because I’d be letting not only myself down but John too. John also helps make sure I have proper form, encourages me to keep going, and just makes it more fun! There are some challenges in working out together though, in that you need to make sure you have enough space, because it can get frustrating constantly moving the agility ladders to make sure we can get the moves done. I have also really loved sharing this journey with you guys, I feel like I have gone through it with you, in the good time and the bad. You guys kept me motivated as well, because I wanted to be able to report back to you all with the best numbers I possibly could and I wanted to share with you all the accomplishment achieved along the way.

As for the workout, it was a really great one today. I was in it and ready to deliver. I have mastered the warm up and was able to stay in it the entire time with no breaks. The 3 minutes of Jump Rope Drills are the most challenging and once you get through those the Agility Ladder Drills are actually fun for me. You move into the workout with Mountain Climber Rotations where Box 1 & 2 are still easy, but Box 3 is just incredibly tough, I stayed in it as long as I could though. I am getting faster with Forward and Backward Agility and I still really love the Scissor Run Drill with In and Out Feet and a Rotational Squat Jump! Moving Pushups with In and Out Abs is still tough but my form is better and I stay in the move the entire time, and I am getting deeper in my pushups. In and Out Ab Progression is again easy in Box 1 & 2, but in Box 3 I have real trouble. I can jump into the box, but jumping out of it always ends up with my feet hitting the last wrung of the ladder and sliding out from under me. Then it’s Bear Crawls, and these are killer, but I am able to stick with this move the entire time, which will hopefully carry over to tomorrow for my Fit Test. Crisscross Power Jumps are getting easier, and I’m moving up and back the ladder with them, so that’s good. Now for the Power Round: Hopscotch Drill, Agility Hurdles, and Agility Dual Hops were all mastered and stayed in the entire time with decent speed and coordination. Then Agility Plank and Shoulder Taps were both done with better form and speed and in fact I got 4 Shoulder Taps tonight which is a new personal record! Proud Moment!

By the time we reached the end I was drenched, exhausted, exhilarated, sad, and proud all at the same time. This workout was what I needed to prove that I have been making great strides at improving my strength, coordination, agility, and overall physical ability. This workout pushes me to be better and pushes me to get the best results possible. I think I did great tonight and I hope I can do just as great tomorrow for my Fit Test so you guys can tangibility see the results I know I have achieved. I am really looking forward to tomorrows Fit Test to see how far I have truly progressed, you definitely don’t want to miss that date! So check out the video below and check back in tomorrow for the Final Chapter of my Insanity the Asylum Dates!
