TurboFire Day 76: Insanity the Asylum Speed and Agility

TurboFire Day 76: Insanity the Asylum Speed and Agility

Mar 24, 2012

Alright guys, so today is Day 76 of TurboFire and I have been loving every minute of it! Every workout is sacred and I felt nostalgic each time I put one of the discs back in the box for good, because I won’t be doing that workout anymore. However despite loving TurboFire, I love working out with my husband as well, and he has started the Asylum so I decided that today I would jump in that with him. The Asylum is his soulmate workout, it’s definitely not mine, but it challenges me in new ways that I haven’t been challenged in since starting TurboFire, so I thought I’d see what I retained from my last round of Insanity the Asylum. This is just Day 1 for him so the first workout on the books is Speed and Agility it’s comparable in cardio capacity and has a bit more strength aspects added in, but it’ll be instead of HIIT 25 + Tone 30 so a good trade off I think.

So the minute I hit play on the remote I remembered how extreme these workouts are and how crazy tiered I used to get after just the warm up. In Speed and Agility the warm up is your usual Shaun T warm up, which means it’s harder than any other warm up out there. It consists of 3 minutes of Jump Rope Drills, which can I just say are killer and in fact I don’t even use a jump rope, because of our low ceilings, but the act of jumping for 3 minutes straight kicks my butt! Then you get a nice stretch before the real work begins.  The actual workout begins with approximately 32minutes left on the clock, which sounds short but believe me you are working hard the whole time. You start with Mountain Climber Rotations which is a move that challenges my abs, shoulders, and cardio but I can do Box 1 and Box 2, Box 3 is out of the question for me still!  You then do forward and backward agility which I can now fly through. Next is scissor runs with in and out feet and a squat jump, which is more taxing but still not as challenging as I once remember. Next is Moving Pushups with a ladder jump which I can actually do now. Moving on to In and Out Ab progressions with the ladder, and again Box 1 and Box 2 are doable but I can’t get to Box 3. Next is Bear Crawls which tend to kick my butt and I am defiantly fading by this point of the workout. You do a Hopscotch Drill which I can fly through, Crisscross Power Jumps which kill me but I can get more air and go a lot longer than I used to be able to and finally the power round. Hopscotch drill, Forward and Backward Agility, Agility Hurdles, Agility Dual Hops, Agility Plank, and Should Taps. I got to 4 shoulder taps without stopping which is where I left off at the end of my last round of The Asylum so it was cool I was still at that point but I know I’ll be sore tomorrow.

So that was my nostalgic throw back to Insanity the Asylum and it was as crazy as I once remember. It was fun working out with my hubby and it was fun mixing it up a bit, but I love me some TurboFire and defiantly know it’s my soulmate workout. Today’s Speed and Agility workout was challenging and engaging. It was weird though because before my cardio was not good enough to complete the moves all the way through but now after having done TurboFire my cardio is on par if not much improved from where I was before I started but my strength to do some of the athletic specific moves required in the Asylum is not what is used to be. I need to build up my strength and that’s where Chalean Extreme comes in, which I am starting April 10th! I hope you all join me or at least follow along in that adventure as well because it is defiantly outside my comfort zone, but it is what I need to do to improve. So that’s it for today guys I’ll put up a video once my hubby gets it done and other than that check out our page at www.facebook.com/gf2revolution and email me with questions or to join my next challenge group at info@gf2revolution.com I’ll talk with you all tomorrow for my last Fire 30 + Stretch 10!
